Fall Into Flavor: Cozy Up with My Favorite Recipes and Cooking Classes!

Chef Michele & Son Nate

Greetings fellow cooks, bakers, cakers and cookie makers! Happy September!

Last week I was sure fall 🍁 was on its way with the whisper of crisp autumn air in the morning! I couldn't help but get excited about all the cozy comforts the season brings. While I do very much love Summer and I'm always sad to see it go, there's just something about fall that makes it my favorite time of year. From wrapping up in my favorite sweaters to the smell of campfires, fall is all about warmth and togetherness. And, of course, the flavors—oh, the flavors! Whether it's fresh apple cider doughnuts or a hearty bowl of chili, fall cooking and baking has a special place in my heart.

Fall Pumpkins and Corn Stalks
Cider Hill Farm Pumpkins and Corn Stalks

Growing up, one of my absolute favorite fall traditions was harvesting corn from our garden. My mom would bundle up the stalks to decorate for Halloween, and we’d go all out for the holiday—handmade costumes, a school party with treats Mom baked herself, and of course, Trick-or-Treating. But the best part? Coming home to a big, steaming bowl of her homemade chili, topped with gooey melted cheese, fresh green onions, and a side of crunchy corn chips. It’s a tradition I’ve carried on with my own family, and every spoonful takes me right back to those magical fall nights.

My grandma’s homemade apple sauce and apple butter also hold a special place in my heart. She’d harvest apples from her trees and zucchini from her garden at summer’s end. She'd seal the applesauce and apple butter up in mason jars in the fall to gift us during the holidays.

With the zucchini she'd make the most delicious chocolate zucchini bread which is still a favorite and my go-to treat when I want a taste of nostalgia. These memories inspire so much of my fall cooking and baking today.
